Hydrogen Sulfide Advanced 1 Day

Course Details

Hydrogen Sulfide Advanced training

ABC Safety Solutions has you covered if you need to take training programs on hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and are in need of assistance.

Your safety is important to us, and we’re devoted to making our programs as user-friendly as possible. H2S is a chemical that can kill a person if they are exposed to it.

H2S Safety training programs cannot and should not be taken lightly due to the risks that come with it. Understanding the risks and how to operate safely around them when they can’t be avoided is the first step in protecting yourself and people around you from them, just like with any other workplace danger.

So what exactly is Hydrogen Sulfide?

Hydrogen Sulfide is a colorless gas known for its pungent “rotten egg” odor at low concentrations. It is highly flammable, highly toxic, and corrosive to certain metals.

Hydrogen sulfide occurs naturally in sewers, salt mines, well water, oil and gas wells, and confined spaces. Because it is heavier than air, hydrogen sulfide has the tendency to collect in low-lying and enclosed spaces.

Its presence makes work in confined spaces potentially very dangerous if proper work procedures are not established and followed.

The health effects of hydrogen sulfide depend on how much H2S a worker breathes in and how long they are exposed to the gas. However, many effects are seen even at low concentrations.

Effects range from mild headaches or eye irritation to unconsciousness and death.

Hydrogen Sulfide Effect on Humans

When a person breathes in Hydrogen Sulfide the chemical compound then goes directly through the lungs and into the bloodstream.

To protect itself, the body oxidizes (breaks down) the chemical compound as rapidly as possible into a harmless compound. Between 300–350 ppm, the oxidative enzymes become overwhelmed.

If the individual breathes in so much Hydrogen Sulfide that the body cannot oxidize all of it, the chemical compound builds up in the blood and the individual becomes poisoned.

H2S attacks the central nervous system and paralyzes the phrenic nerve controlling the diaphragm, breathing stops and the individual is suffocated.

Hydrogen Sulfide Side Effects

Some workers who have been exposed to Hydrogen Sulfide concentration have experienced headaches, poor attention span, impaired memory, and motor function abilities after waking up.

Problems with the cardiovascular system have also been reported at exposures above OSHA’s permissible exposure limits (PEL)

Hydrogen Sulfide Hazard Detection & Exposure Training in Houston, Texas

One of the main risks connected with oil and gas operations is hydrogen sulfide, which led to the requirement for this training.

Smelling hydrogen sulfide can have major health effects and even be fatal without sufficient instruction on what to do when confronted with the gas.

Industries That Require Hydrogen Sulfide Hazard Detection & Exposure Training Course

Oil and gas industries need to have this training.

With that, hydrogen sulfide (H2S) hazards, as well as the precautions, equipment, and controls required when working in H2S environments, are covered in detail in ABC Safety Solutions‘ Hydrogen sulfide Hazard Detection & Exposure Training in Houston, Texas.

To Whom Does Hydrogen Sulfide Hazard Detection & Exposure Training For?

All employees who are or could be working in an environment that could be contaminated by H2S gas should take this course.

Learning Outcomes of Hydrogen Sulfide Hazard Detection & Exposure Training Course

The safety measures that need to be followed when working in a setting where H2S may be present are covered in this training.

Our in-depth instruction on hydrogen sulfide will equip trainees with the following learning outcomes upon course completion:

  • Hydrogen sulfide detection
  • The risks posed by H2S
  • The consequences and signs of exposure to hydrogen sulfide or to high levels of hydrogen sulfide
  • Describe hydrogen sulfide hazards
  • Technical controls
  • Employ H2S protection for maritime workers
  • gas sensors
  • monitoring equipment
  • Respiratory safety
  • Emergency action steps

How Is Hydrogen Sulfide Training Evaluated?

Tests are given to students to gauge their understanding of the material. You’ll receive a certification after passing the test.

Hydrogen Sulfide Training Certifications and Validity

This H2S training course is valid for a year, after which you must attend an H2S re-certification training course to stay up to date on best practices in the industry and any changes to regulations.
